Effective risk management requires context, and Ian's professional journey began as a qualified structural and civil engineer. The structured thinking and problem-solving skills inherent in engineering design and construction led Ian to project management and business improvement initiatives. This career progression naturally evolved into risk management, where Ian has made significant contributions to its knowledge and application.
Ian was awarded a patent for a System for Managing Risks, designed to evaluate the risk of outcomes in various contexts, whether adverse or favourable, and to assist in planning to reduce adverse risks and increase the likelihood of favourable outcomes. This innovation is encapsulated in a risk knowledge base that improves over time through learning.
The next phase of enhancing the risk knowledge base involves integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the accuracy of risk analysis based on evidence from field operations managing risks in infrastructure projects, built infrastructure assets, facilities, mining, oil and gas operations, banking & finance, and IT networks and assets. This brings the application of Strategic Risk and Tactical Risk that improves operational efficiencies and delivery of the Strategic Plan in the healthcare, aged care, government and not-for-profit sectors. This integration supports decision-making in the planning and delivery of assets, as well as in maintaining these assets at the lowest serviceable costs based on their risk profiles.
Ian possesses unique expertise in aligning various Risk and Governance programs, including Risk Management, Project Risks, Compliance, Risk Assurance, Business Continuity Planning, Safety Management, and Auditing.
